Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Localization Manager to lead our Japan market localization strategy from our Sydney headquarters. This role will be instrumental in ensuring our products, marketing materials, and customer communications resonate authentically with Japanese traders while maintaining brand consistency across all touchpoints. Sydney preferred; open to candidates across major Australian cities (Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide) with remote/hybrid arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
Localization Strategy & Execution
- Develop and implement comprehensive localization strategies for the Japanese market covering product UI/UX, marketing campaigns, educational content, and regulatory communications
- Manage end-to-end localization workflows from translation through cultural adaptation and quality assurance
- Collaborate with product, marketing, and compliance teams to ensure culturally appropriate messaging that aligns with Japanese market expectations and trading behaviors
Content & Quality Management
- Oversee translation and transcreation of marketing materials, trading platform interfaces, educational resources, and customer communications
- Establish and maintain localization style guides, glossaries, and terminology databases specific to forex trading in Japanese
- Conduct linguistic and cultural quality reviews to ensure accuracy, naturalness, and market appropriateness
- Manage relationships with external translation vendors and freelance translators when needed
Market Insights & Adaptation
- Monitor Japanese forex market trends, competitor positioning, and cultural nuances that impact messaging strategies
- Provide market-specific recommendations on product features, promotional campaigns, and customer engagement approaches
- Ensure compliance with Japanese financial regulations and advertising standards in all localized content
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with Japan-based teams or representatives to gather market feedback and validate localized content
- Work closely with design teams to adapt visual assets for Japanese market preferences
- Support customer service teams with culturally appropriate response templates and communication guidelines
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Language & Cultural Expertise
- Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese (JLPT N1 or equivalent)
- Professional business proficiency in English
- Deep understanding of Japanese business culture, communication styles, and consumer behaviors
- Proven ability to adapt messaging for different Japanese audience segments (retail traders, institutional clients, etc.)
Professional Experience
- 5+ years of experience in localization, translation management, or content adaptation roles
- Experience in financial services, fintech, or forex/trading industry strongly preferred
- Demonstrated track record managing localization projects across multiple content types and platforms
- Experience working with translation management systems and CAT tools
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong project management abilities with attention to detail and deadline management
- Familiarity with localization tools and workflows (e.g., Phrase, Lokalise, memoQ, or similar)
- Understanding of SEO principles for Japanese language content
- Ability to analyze market data and user feedback to inform localization decisions

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience living or working in Japan
- Knowledge of forex trading terminology and concepts
- Experience with marketing automation and CMS platforms
- Understanding of Japanese regulatory requirements for financial services marketing
- Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Japanese Studies, Business, or related field
